How do I know if I'm in diabetic ketoacidosis?
Diabetes vs Keto
Diabetic ketoacidosis and ketosis are two completely different states. Diabetic Ketoacidosis is a state where your ketone levels are super high and your blood sugar is high—but your blood pH is low or acidic. That is a state that is basically you're down to the floor, versus a state of ketosis is a natural metabolic state where you are producing ketones. You're in a state of ketosis, but it's not keto acidosis.
This is something where people get very confused and they think keto is dangerous, or they see a commercial that says, "this can cause diabetic ketoacidosis."
That is a completely different thing.
If you're worried about that, don't be if you have diabetes—either type one or type two. I would definitely check with your doctor first. Ketosis is a natural metabolic state and the amount of ketones that you would have to produce to get into diabetic ketoacidosis is astronomically high and that is very unlikely for the average person.
